Mark Harris has served as ISTC president and CEO since 2012, creating partnerships between businesses, universities and government.

“There’s so many opportunities to stretch yourself and sometimes you’re going to fail and sometimes you’re going to fall on your face,” he told Blue Sky. “But I think the more you get into that mindset of really pushing yourself, your frontier and horizons just get that much bigger.”

Prior to his work at ISTC, Harris served as deputy chief of staff to former Illinois Gov. Pat Quinn. He also was associate director for the Polsky Center for Entrepreneurship at the University of Chicago Booth School of Business.

Harris held senior positions at the Illinois Department of Commerce and Economic Opportunity (DCEO). He received his bachelor’s from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign and a master’s from the University of Chicago.

He is a member of the Economic Club of Chicago and serves on the Illinois Business Immigration Coalition Steering Committee. He is also a member of the Illinois Smart Grid Advisory Council.
