Sandee Kastrul is president and co-founder of i.c.stars, a non-profit that prepares inner-city adults for careers in technology.
“I believe that diversity is the primary driver of invention. When you get diversity of experience, we have a whole host of opportunities that open up,” she told Blue Sky. “You know, we never stop learning. Just like change never stops in our industry.”
Previously, Kastrul worked as an educator, diversity trainer and education consultant. She designed a science and civics interactive program for GED students at Jobs for Youth and implemented a professional development program with the Harold Washington College Career Center.
In July 2016, i.c.stars expanded outside Chicago for the first time, with a location in Columbus, Ohio. The organization plans to launch a satellite in Milwaukee later in the year.
Kastrul holds a bachelor of fine arts from Ithaca College.
