There is no shortage of freight-hauling businesses in Chicago, but in 2006 Jeff Silver launched what is considered one of the fastest-growing freight-brokerages in the third-party logistics industry.
Silver co-founded Coyote Logistics after 15 years at American Backhaulers, where he was executive vice president. Between gigs he took five years off to pursue an MBA from the University of Michigan and a master’s of engineering in logistics from MIT.
While at American Backhaulers, Silver developed some of the industry’s first computer applications.
“Innovation has a place all over what we do,” Silver told Blue Sky. “As our employees interact with their customers and carriers, we ask them to approach every interaction as an opportunity to understand what the problems are that those companies are having and to think about innovative ways in which we can help them solve those problems.”
Silver was named the EY Entrepreneur of the Year in the Midwest in 2011.
He serves on the board of Northwestern University Transportation Center and the MIT School of Engineering Dean’s Advisory Council and is a member of the Economic Club of Chicago.
