Sam Yagan is the Chicago-based CEO of ShopRunner, a members-only shopping service based outside Philadelphia. He is also vice chairman and former CEO of The Match Group, owner of Match.com, and is co-founder of OkCupid. He is the co-founder and general partner of startup accelerator Techstars Chicago.
“I want to see talent and companies and money and entrepreneurs moving to Chicago,” he told Blue Sky. “Let’s see a coastal [venture capital group] open up an office here.”
He co-founded OkCupid in 2003 and SparkNotes in 1999. He also founded file-sharing network eDonkey in 2002.
Yagan sits on the boards of SpotHero and Shiftgig. He has been named one of Time Magazine’s “100 Most Influential People in the World” and won the Visionary Award at the 2014 Chicago Innovation Awards.
He has a bachelor’s in applied mathematics and economics from Harvard University and an MBA from the Stanford University Graduate School of Business. He is married to Jessica Droste Yagan.
