Karin O’Connor has 20 years of experience investing in and advising companies of all sizes. In 2004 she founded consulting firm Perimeter Advisors, which helps midmarket companies plan and execute strategies to add value to their firms.
She also served as managing director at investor network Hyde Park Angels, where she invested in startups including Intellihot tankless water heaters; YCharts stock research; Fee Fighters, a merchant credit comparison service acquired by Groupon; and Moxie Jean upscale resale.
She also advises companies like Moxie Jean and CleanBeeBaby car seat and stroller cleaning.
“There are a lot of folks who want to do a startup, but only if it can still be comfortable financially for them,” she told Blue Sky, when she was managing director of the Hyde Park Angels. “They view it as a line on their resume. To me, those really aren’t entrepreneurs. We’re looking for that hunger, that scrappiness, the ability to shift gears. One of the red flags is if they’re trying to come close to a corporate compensation package. We’re not interested in that.”
O’Connor has a bachelor’s degree in finance from the University of Illinois and an MBA from Northwestern University’s Kellogg School of Management. She began her career at Continental Bank.
A native of Carbondale, Ill., O’Connor is married and has a young daughter. She lives in Chicago.
