Mike Sands is president and CEO of Signal, a marketing technology firm. The company closed a $30 million Series E round of funding in spring 2016 to expand its product in global markets and hire tech workers.
More than 20,000 companies and brands use Signal’s platform, including Crate & Barrel, Macy’s and Starwood Hotels and Resorts.
“Being an entrepreneur is really exciting, exhilarating, and completely scary,” Sands told Blue Sky. “If you want to be a successful entrepreneur, I encourage entrepreneurs to bring their ideas to market with a team. The fact that I had two amazing co-founders in Eric Lunt and Marc Kiven makes this company possible.”
Today startups have the incredible opportunity to build a company on open source software without a lot of capital, Sands said.
Prior to joining Signal (which was originally called BrightTag), Sands held the positions of CMO and COO at Orbitz. After his time at Orbitz, Sands joined The Pritzker Group as a private equity team partner. He also worked at General Motors and Leo Burnett.
Sands earned a bachelor’s degree in communication from Northwestern University and an MBA from the Kellogg School of Management.
