Mark Tebbe is chairman of ChicagoNext, the tech council of World Business Chicago. He is an operating executive at private equity fund Lake Capital, serves on executive committees for tech incubator 1871 and venture collaborative TechNexus, and is an entrepreneur in residence and adjunct professor of entrepreneurship at the University of Chicago Booth School of Business.
He took the role at ChicagoNext in spring 2015.
“We’ve had a good start; there’s an opportunity to do more,” Tebbe told Blue Sky. “Chicago has been very, very good to me, and it’s my chance to give back.”
ChicagoNext emphasizes advancement in clean tech, bioscience, fintech, and Web and mobile. Recent projects include healthtech incubator Matter and the CleanTech Innovation Bridge, which matches corporations with clean-energy researchers and early stage ventures.
Tebbe founded Lante Corp. in 1984 and was a co-founder of Answers Corp. Answers.com and wikianswers.com, which Answers owns and operates, were both named one of the fastest-growing U.S. websites by ComScore and HitWise in 2007 and 2008.
Tebbe holds a BS in computer science from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign.
